They offer an alternative to traditional commercial campsites, allowing you to park directly on working rural land growing crops, livestock farms, vineyards, or farmshops. Most farms only host between 1 to 5 vehicles at a time, ensuring a peaceful, uncrowded atmosphere.

What facilities can I expect at a farm stopover?
The facilities at a farm stopover can range from completely off-grid spaces to fully equipped pitches, depending entirely on the individual farm setup. Because these are primarily working agricultural businesses rather than commercial holiday parks, amenities are grouped into three common tiers.

The Standard "Off-Grid" Setup

Many farms offer the bare minimum, expecting you to be fully self-contained in your motorhome or campervan. This usually includes a basic outdoor tap, usually threaded, located on a farmyard wall for tank refills. Level Parking, a hardstanding gravel pad, concrete yard, or a firm grass paddock. General domestic refuse bins for your day-to-day rubbish.

This can typically include an outdoor elsan toilet disposal point for emptying your black waste cassette, grey water drain and EHU. The higher end of these stops will also offer toilets and showers.

What to know before you go?
Here's a few things to know before you go...

CHECK SERVICES AND PLAN AHEAD - If you are not fully self sufficient on board and require services such as toilets, electricity or waste disposal check if the venue offers the service before travelling so you can plan ahead.

LEAVE NO TRACE (LNT) - Always remember to leave no trace when you depart from parking locations, this includes disposing of grey and black waste responsibly at designated locations only, take only memories and leave only tyre tracks. ​
​
NO CAMPING BEHAVIOUR - Do not exhibit camping behaviour at parking spots, this includes using awnings, BBQ's, outdoor cookers, camping chairs/furniture , fire pits or other camping equipment. Behaving in this manner will harm the vanlife community image and will ultimately lead to the closure of parking spaces that are abused in this way.
