Gwynedd Arosfan Scheme: A Guide to Motorhome Stopovers in North Wales
Planning a North Wales road trip? Gwynedd’s Arosfan scheme is one to add to your map, with designated overnight stops that make exploring by motorhome a little easier.
You’ll find all four stops and their information on The Campervan Bible app. Here’s what to know before you go.
What is the Gwynedd Arosfan scheme?
Run by Cyngor Gwynedd, Arosfan provides overnight motorhome bays within walking distance of towns and key destinations. Think continental-style aires: somewhere for a short stop rather than a campsite setup.
All Gwynedd Arosfan locations
Location | Town | Postcode |
Y Maes Car Park | Cricieth | LL52 0BT |
Y Glyn | Llanberis | LL55 4TY |
Cei’r Gogledd | Pwllheli | LL53 5YR |
Doc Fictoria Car Park — old Shell site | Caernarfon | LL55 1SQ |
How much does it cost?
£16.50 per night, covering 4pm–10am.
Maximum two consecutive nights, with no return within seven days.
Normal daytime parking charges apply between 10am and 4pm.
No overnight Blue Badge discount.
Pay at the nearest pay-and-display machine or through PayByPhone; the council also lists YourParkingSpace for Y Glyn, Llanberis. App payments carry a small service charge.
Can you book?
Bays are first come, first served, with no advance reservations. Leaving your bay frees it for another user, even during your paid period. Tickets cannot be transferred between vehicles.
Have a backup stop in mind, particularly if you’re arriving later in the day.
Can campervans use the scheme?
Only self-contained vehicles with an onboard toilet and water facilities qualify; external containers are not permitted.
Check your setup before travelling: having a bed in the van alone doesn’t meet the requirements.
What facilities are available?
The council currently lists:
Facility | Locations |
Fresh water | Cricieth, Caernarfon and Pwllheli |
Grey and chemical waste disposal | Cricieth, Pwllheli and Llanberis |
Fresh water at Llanberis and waste disposal at Caernarfon are not listed on the council’s information page. Plan your refill and emptying stops accordingly.
Follow service-point instructions, attaching your hose before activating the water.
Rules to know before you arrive
Use designated Arosfan bays only; sleepovers elsewhere in council car parks are prohibited.
Park centrally within the bay to maintain six-metre vehicle spacing.
No outside cooking, barbecues, furniture, awnings, canopies, windbreaks or washing lines.
Keep dogs on leads, other pets controlled and noise minimal; no radios or music.
Use proper waste facilities and take rubbish away if bins are full.
Access steps and drive-on/off levelling ramps are allowed. Visit Snowdonia
For an evening with the chairs out and an awning up, choose a campsite instead. Arosfan works best when you’re happy to keep everything within the van and head out on foot.
Check current signs and the council’s guidance before staying, as prices, availability and conditions can change.
