New motorhome service point planned for A9 at North Kessock

Motorhome and campervan travellers using the A9 near Inverness could soon have a new place to refill fresh water and deal with wastewater. Plans have been approved for a motorhome service area at the North Kessock northbound car park, close to the existing public toilets and west of the Harry Gow bakery.
The proposal includes infrastructure for fresh water and wastewater disposal, connected to the existing toilet block. It is intended as a practical service stop for motorhomes and campervans travelling through the area. The plans do not describe a campsite or overnight pitches, so travellers should not assume that the new facility will provide somewhere to stay overnight.
A useful stop on the way into the Highlands
North Kessock sits just north of the Kessock Bridge, on the A9 route between Inverness and the Black Isle. The car park is well placed for people arriving in the Highlands or continuing north, and a dedicated disposal point could make it easier to manage onboard water and waste responsibly during a journey.
The council has previously identified North Kessock as a suitable location for motorhome services because it is an existing car park, close to village facilities and at a key tourist gateway. Its wider work on motorhome infrastructure reflects the pressure that growing visitor numbers can place on local waste facilities and parking.
A smaller proposal after earlier plans
The new service area follows earlier proposals for a larger motorhome stopover at North Kessock. In 2020, plans for up to 30 motorhome berths with supporting facilities were withdrawn after Transport Scotland requested a further traffic survey. The recently approved scheme is focused on water and waste services at the existing car park rather than creating a larger overnight site.
What travellers should know
The new facilities could offer a useful service point for campervans and motorhomes travelling on the A9, but details such as opening date, charges and operating arrangements have not been confirmed in the reports available. Until the service area opens and its rules are published, drivers should check local signage and use established facilities for overnight stays.
We’ll update this article when more information about the opening and services becomes available. Once the facilities have opened we will also add them to our interactive map on our app!
