Glenbuchty Stopover Motorhome Aire

Glenbuchty Cottage, B9031, Fraserburgh AB43 7EE

Glenbuchty Stopover Motorhome Aire is a highly-rated, award-winning, certified overnight parking facility situated just outside the historic harbour town of Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire

Located directly on the scenic North East 250 tourist route and the Moray Coastal Trail, this small, welcoming stopover is positioned within the front grounds of a coastal granite stone fisherman's cottage. It offers travelers an affordable, safe base with sublime, panoramic sea views over the Moray Firth.

Pitch & Vehicle Details

The aire is operated by motorhome owners Cecilia and Greg, designed specifically to support the touring community.

  • Capacity & Ground Type: The site features 5 spacious hardstanding pitches set on a large driveway, with a few secluded seasonal grass bays also available inside the garden walls.

  • Vehicle Suitability: Open to all campervans, motorhomes, and large American-style RVs. There are absolutely no restrictions regarding vehicle length, weight, or twin axles.

  • Requirements: All visiting vehicles must be entirely self-contained with their own onboard toilet facilities.

  • Booking & Logistics: Open 24 hours a day, all year round. There are no fixed arrival or departure times. Drive-ins are welcome if space allows, though advance bookings can be secured by calling 07796 671068

  • Pricing & Rules: The overnight stay is a modest £5 per pitch per night, with no extra fees for additional passengers. Traditional campsite behaviors—such as deploying side awnings, gazebos, or outer pup tents—are strictly prohibited on the pitches.

On-Site Facilities

While the aire is intentionally basic to maintain its affordable continental style, it offers essential utility services:

  • Waste Management: Features a dedicated chemical toilet (Elsan/CDP) black waste disposal point. This service is included for staying guests or available as a drive-in drop-off service for passing vans for £5 per cassette. Dedicated recycling bins are also provided on-site.

  • Water & Utilities: Fresh drinking water fill-ups are completely free for staying guests. Very limited electric hookup (EHU) options are available for an extra £5. Note that there are no public toilets or shower blocks on site.

  • Social Spaces: A dedicated sea-facing headland patio and seating areas are provided away from the vans, alongside a communal fire-pit.

  • Pet Friendly: Dogs are warmly welcomed all year at no extra charge, but they must remain on leads while outside the vehicle. A public dog waste bin is positioned directly opposite the site entrance.

Local Information & Activities

The headland location acts as an excellent vantage point for nature and local heritage:

  • Wildlife & Sights: The site's private headland is directly opposite a summer seal colony. Visitors regularly spot grey seals, herons, minke whales, and orcas. On clear nights during the correct season, the northern horizon offers clear views of the Aurora Borealis.

  • Active Travel: A dedicated pedestrian and cycle path runs directly opposite the site entrance. This safely connects you to town or allows you to join the Formartine & Buchan Way—a long-distance cycle path built over an old railway line.

  • Fraserburgh Attractions: The town features The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses, built right on top of a 16th-century castle keep. Nearby, you can explore the Fraserburgh Heritage Centre, relax on a vast sandy beach renowned for its great surfing waves, or visit the town's indoor swimming pool and golf course.

  • Transport: A local bus stop is located under half a mile away near the supermarket, providing straightforward public transport connections around the wider Aberdeenshire coastline.
