Praa Sands Beach Car Park

Praa Sands Beach Car Park is a premier, privately owned beachfront parking facility located in West Cornwall. It is situated at the western end of Praa Sands Beach between Marazion and Porthleven. Positioned right on the South West Coast Path, it offers immediate access to a half-mile stretch of fine golden sand and excellent surf conditions.

The car park operates on a 24-hour pay-and-display basis backed by ANPR camera enforcement. It features a flat, stoney gravel surface that provides a level base and panoramic ocean views. 

Motorhome & Campervan Stopovers

Unlike many coastal car parks in Cornwall managed by the local council, this private site explicitly welcomes self-contained motorhomes and campervans for overnight stays. 

• Pricing: Standard 24-hour overnight access typically costs between £12 to £15. Short-stay options are available for daylight visitors. 

• Duration: Stays are permitted up to a maximum of 72 hours.

• Terrain: The gravel ground remains stable in wet weather, though front-row parking spaces are highly exposed to sea winds during storms. 

• Rules: Standard campsite layouts are not permitted; awnings, tables, and outdoor cooking must remain inside the vehicle. Discharging grey water onto the ground is strictly forbidden. 

Facilities & Services

While the site provides essential utility services, it operates as a car park rather than a fully equipped commercial campsite. 

• Chemical Toilet Disposal: A dedicated Elsan point for emptying chemical waste tanks is located to the left side of the main storage shed. Use is included in the overnight parking ticket.

• Fresh Water: A tap is housed inside the central shed. Refills require a small contribution paid directly to the site warden, priced at £3 per tank refill or £1 per bottle.

• Public Toilets: Local council-managed public toilets near the slipway are frequently closed. Visitors should ensure they arrive in self-contained vehicles.

• Mobile Signal: Network coverage is notoriously poor across the car park area, with many providers showing zero cellular signal. 

Beachfront Dining

Two prominent food and drink venues operate directly adjacent to the car park overlooking the surf zone:

• The Welloe - Formerly known as the Sandbar, this family-friendly beach bar is open year-round. It serves breakfast, homemade pizzas, burgers, and fresh local seafood alongside cold beers. It features panoramic sea-view tables, wheelchair access, and a dog-friendly indoor policy.

• Stonesreef Beach Bar & Kitchen - Positioned directly on the sands, this venue serves premium coastal dishes, specialty coffee, and features breakfast choices like back bacon bagels. It offers dynamic gluten-free menu options and runs seasonal evening sunset DJ sets. 

Local Information & Environment

• Beach Access: Access from the main car park involves a short flight of steps. Wheelchair users can use the concrete slipway running past the smaller adjoining parking areas.

• Lifeguards: RNLI seasonal lifeguard cover protects the beach during peak periods. Strong undercurrents and deep tidal shelving occur at high tide.

• Dog Restrictions: Seasonal restrictions ban dogs from the beach between 1st July and 31st August from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
