Dining and Menu Highlights

Hebridean Heatwave operates with distinct breakfast and daytime menus, alongside highly anticipated evening specials. They cater exceptionally well to diverse dietary requirements, offering extensive vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options.

  • Breakfast (Served until 11:45 AM): Includes filled hot rolls, breakfast burgers, loaded muffins, local smoked salmon rolls, home-baked cakes, and premium freshly ground coffee.

  • Daytime Menu: Features slow-cooked meats, loaded fries (like Chinese curry chicken fries), artisan toasties (including the best-selling Lewis Toastie with Stornoway black pudding, haggis, and chutney), kebabs, and gourmet burgers. They frequently showcase local specialties like wild venison burgers and butcher-sourced beef.

  • Evening & Weekend Specials: Between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, their custom pizza oven fires up for pre-ordered artisan pizzas. They are also famous for their weekend "Munchy Boxes" packed with doner meat, chicken and potato pakoras, Stornoway black pudding, pitta, and signature sauces.

  • How to Order: Orders can be made via walk-up, but pre-ordering or checking daily menus via their Hebridean Heatwave Facebook Page or WhatsApp is highly recommended, especially for pizzas, curries, and box specials.

Facilities for Motorhomes and Campervans

While the takeaway itself functions primarily as a walk-up/collection point with an outdoor seating shelter for sunny days, the surrounding area is a prime hub for vanlife travellers.

  • Parking & On-Site Setup: The takeaway offers space to park up briefly while collecting food.

  • Overnight Stopovers: At just £15 per night you can stop over in the car park.

  • Available Stopover Amenities: There are no facilities here however , nearby community aires and designated campervan sites provide robust facilities.

Local Information & Responsible Travel

Borve is located on the wild and beautiful north-west coast of the Isle of Lewis, making it an excellent staging ground to explore the Atlantic edge of the Outer Hebrides.

  • The Machair: The coast here is framed by the machair—a globally rare, fertile coastal grassland blanketed in wildflowers. Visitors in motorhomes must never drive or park on the machair as it is highly fragile and serves as vital grazing land for crofters' cattle and sheep.

  • Local Attractions: Driving north leads directly to the historic Butt of Lewis lighthouse, dramatic coastal cliffs, and the beautiful beaches around the Port of Ness.

  • Island Etiquette: Travellers are encouraged to use official waste points, refrain from lighting fires on open ground, and respect local customs—such as avoiding hanging out washing or performing heavy tasks on Sundays.
