Motorhome and Campervan Stopover Details

Supported by the Campaign for Real Aires (CAMpRA), the venue provides a dedicated, safe overnight parking option for road trippers:

  • Capacity & Space: The flat, large car park accommodates up to 5 campervans or motorhomes overnight. [

  • Pricing: Overnight parking is exceptionally reasonable at £5.00 per night.

  • Payment: Fees can be paid directly inside the café during opening hours, or dropped into the black honesty box located on the front of the building if arriving late.

  • Facilities: This is a no-services stopover, meaning there are currently no electric hookups (EHU), fresh water fill points, or chemical/grey waste disposals on-site.

  • Self-Containment: Vehicles must be fully self-contained, as the on-site toilets are only accessible when the café is open.

  • Access: Drivers should exercise extreme caution on the short approach road, which is known to be potholed.

Venue & Atmosphere

The venue features a modern, single-storey timber construction designed to emphasize its panoramic geography. Its atmosphere is incredibly warm, clean, casual, and inviting, serving as a welcome sanctuary for weary travelers.

  • The View: The greatest asset of the venue is its backdrop. Visitors enjoy unobstructed, majestic views over the glittering waters of Loch Duich, the slopes of the Ratagan Forest, and the towering peaks of the Five Sisters of Kintail. It is a prime position for watching dramatic Scottish sunsets or spotting resident seals playing in the loch.

  • Seating & Layout: Indoor seating is complemented by outdoor benches, allowing guests to dine al-fresco on clear days. The property also features free customer Wi-Fi, full wheelchair accessibility (including a front ramp and accessible restrooms), and an on-site defibrillator for safety.

Dining & Menu Highlights

The Pitstop operates as a fully licensed café and restaurant with a stellar local reputation. The kitchen focuses on hearty, freshly prepared British, European, and American-style diner classics:

  • Menus Offered: They serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner.

  • Diner Favourites: Reviewers highly praise the Pitstop Burger served with skin-on fries, as well as their locally sourced venison burgers. In the morning, they are famous for hot, fresh breakfast rolls.

  • Coffee & Baking: It is a popular spot to drop in simply for artisanal coffees, teas, and homemade cakes.

  • Dietary Inclusivity: The menu offers excellent, flexible choices for vegetarians and vegans. Vegan-specific options on HappyCow reviews include three-bean chili, chickpea and sweet potato curries, and specialized toasties featuring vegan bacon, sausage, haggis, and cheese.

  • Beverages: Because the venue is fully licensed, guests can enjoy a selection of beer, wine, and spirits alongside their meals.

Local Information & Amenities

Stopping at Kintail drops you directly into one of the most ruggedly beautiful segments of the Western Highlands:

  • Convenience Next Door: Sharing the immediate car park is Kintail Crafts. This local shop is incredibly convenient for stopover vans, stocking essential groceries, camping supplies, Scottish crafts, gifts, and an off-license selection.

  • Hiking & Nature: The venue sits at the foot of the Five Sisters of Kintail, making it an ideal refueling station for hillwalkers descending the peaks or hikers finishing the gruelling Affric Kintail Way trail.

  • Nearby Attractions: You are just a short drive from the iconic, historic Eilean Donan Castle in Dornie, as well as the villages of Plockton and Glenelg.

  • Van Servicing Alternative: Since The Pitstop does not provide waste disposal services, motorhome users needing a service point can utilize the nearby Auchtertyre Farm Motorhome Aire (roughly 8 miles away), which offers chemical waste disposal and fresh water top-ups for a small fee
