The Eday Community Hostel (also known as the Eday Youth Hostel) is a welcoming, community-owned property managed by the Eday Community Association. It is located at London Bay on the tranquil island of Eday, roughly 3.5 miles north of the ferry pier and half a mile from the airfield. This cosy, remote retreat offers an ideal escape for travellers looking to experience authentic Orkney island life away from the busier mainland crowds.
Motorhomes and Campervans
The hostel operates the island's only official motorhome and campervan stopover.
Pitches: Space is available for up to two motorhomes or campervans on dedicated hardstanding pitches.
Hook-ups & Utilities: Electric hook-ups (EHU) are provided. The site features a fresh water tap, wastewater disposal, and rubbish/recycling bins.
Hostel Access: Van guests enjoy full access to the indoor hostel amenities, including hot showers and kitchen facilities.
Pricing: Stays are highly affordable, priced at £20 per night for a camper.

The hostel is exceptionally well-maintained, pet-friendly, and fully suitable for wheelchair users.
Indoor Accommodation: Includes 2 double rooms, 1 family room, and 1 bunk room with shared wet rooms. All bed linen is provided.
Kitchen & Utility: A fully appointed self-catering kitchen comes equipped with a cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, and dishwasher. Laundry needs are covered by an on-site washing machine, tumble dryer, and outdoor clothesline.
Common Areas: A comfortable lounge with a television and free Wi-Fi provides a perfect indoor retreat during windy island days.
Exterior: Includes private parking and an electric car charging point.

Self-Catering: Guests primarily cook their own meals in the communal kitchen.
Local Supplies: The well-stocked community shop and community cafe down the road provide essential groceries, hot beverages, and light snacks. Due to the island's small population, check seasonal hours upon arrival as opening times vary.

Eday is known as the "Red Island" due to its rich heather and sandstone cliffs. It is a haven for beach lovers, walkers, and birdwatchers.
Transportation: There is no public transport on Eday, so having your own campervan or walking is essential for exploring. Traffic on the island's single-track roads is virtually non-existent, ensuring a highly peaceful drive.
Attractions: Directly opposite the hostel sits the peaceful London Bay. Nearby, you can visit the Eday Heritage Centre to learn about local history, browse the community Polycrub (greenhouse), or grab a warm drink from their honesty café.
