St Just Rugby Club

Tregeseal House, The Clubhouse, St Just, Penzance TR19 7PF

St Just Rugby Football Club (St Just RFC) is an amateur rugby union club established in 1967 and based near Penzance in Cornwall, UK. Nicknamed the "Tigers", the club competes in the Counties 2 Tribute Cornwall league and plays its home matches at the Tregeseal ground. Beyond sports, the club operates as a welcoming community hub, offering a fully licensed clubhouse and a popular sheltered valley campsite for visitors exploring the nearby Cape Cornwall coast.

St Just Rugby Football Club (RFC) is a welcoming, community-led sports club in the far west of Cornwall that offers a year-round, budget-friendly campsite specifically adapted for motorhomes and campervans. Tucked away in the sheltered Tregeseal Valley just outside the historic tin-mining town of St Just, the club serves as an excellent, unpretentious base for touring the rugged Penwith Heritage Coast.

Campervan & Motorhome Stopovers

The club welcomes campervans, motorhomes, and tents to pitch directly on the grass around the fringes of the rugby field. During the off-season, camping shifts slightly to a smaller grassed area next to the car park to clear the main pitch for match play.

  • Pricing: Stays are highly affordable, costing £8.00 per adult and £2.00 per child per night.

  • Hookups: Electric Hookups (EHU) are available on specific pitches for an optional £7.50 per night.

  • Booking: The site operates primarily on a flexible "just rock up and pitch" basis, though calling ahead during busy peak summer months is recommended. Payments are usually settled directly with the helpful clubhouse staff when the bar opens in the evening.

  • Pets: Well-behaved dogs are permitted on site but must remain on a lead.

On-Site Facilities

The setup relies on the club’s standard sporting infrastructure, making it a functional, "cheap and cheerful" stopover.

  • Washrooms: Campers have 24-hour access to the main clubhouse changing rooms, featuring clean toilets and spacious, hot communal showers.

  • Waste & Water: There are multiple drinking water taps across the grounds, an Elsan chemical toilet disposal point (CDP), and an outdoor dishwashing sink.

  • Clubhouse Amenities: When open, the clubhouse provides free Wi-Fi, a TV lounge, board games, a dartboard, and a pool table for camper relaxation.

Dining & Clubhouse Bar

While the club does not serve hot meals or run a full restaurant, its bar is a standout feature for visitors.

  • The Bar: The clubhouse bar is fully licensed and widely praised for serving some of the cheapest drinks in West Cornwall, functioning as a vibrant social hub shared by tourists and friendly local residents.

  • Food Options: On select summer weekends, the club hosts outdoor social events featuring large communal BBQs and family entertainment. A fresh milk dispensing machine is also located on-site for morning convenience.

Local Information & Dining Nearby

A short, steep, scenic 10-minute walk along a footpath brings you straight into the town centre of St Just.

  • Town Dining: Because the club doesn't serve meals, visitors walk into town to eat. Highly rated options include traditional pub food at The Queens Arms and The Kings Arms, alongside a local fish and chip shop, and The Dog and Rabbit Cafe for breakfast. The town also hosts a couple of small supermarkets for stocking up on supplies.

  • Nearby Attractions: The dramatic headland of Cape Cornwall is within walking distance, offering sweeping ocean views and access to the South West Coast Path. Landmark destinations like Land's End, Sennen Cove, Porthcurno, and St Ives are all located within a 30-minute drive.

  • Public Transport: An open-top bus service runs regularly from a stop just a few minutes from the club gates, offering scenic transit routes directly to Penzance and St Ives.
